Puritanism itself was a joke. Even the heirarchs of the puritan religion can tell you that. Its standards of living were in itself inevitable at the time. Even today the chances of having a utopian society is almost zero. The point of creating a cemetary and a jailhouse is just the matter of the puritans coming down to earth you might say. Realizing that their religion is restricted. That it has limitations and isn't always followed as such.
